The word 'Gospel' comes from the Greek word euangelion, which means 'good news.' But what is the good news? At its core, the Gospel is a four-part announcement:
1. Creation — God Made Us for Himself
The Bible begins with a beautiful picture: God created the world and called it good. He made human beings in His own image, designed to live in perfect relationship with Him and with one another. We were created for paradise.
2. Fall — We Broke the Relationship
Humanity chose independence from God. The Bible calls this choice sin—not just bad behavior, but a fundamental orientation of the heart that says, 'I want to be my own god.' The result was catastrophic: broken relationships, suffering, injustice, and death entered the world. Romans 3:23 summarizes: 'For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.'
3. Redemption — God Rescued Us Through Jesus
Here is the good news: God did not abandon us. He entered the mess Himself. Jesus Christ—fully God and fully man—lived the perfect life we could not live, then voluntarily died the death we deserved to die. On the cross, He absorbed the full weight of God's justice against sin. Three days later, He rose from the dead, proving that sin and death had been defeated once and for all. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says: 'God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.'
4. Restoration — He is Making All Things New
The Gospel does not end with personal salvation. Jesus promised that He is coming back to fully restore the entire creation—to wipe away every tear, end all suffering, and establish an eternal kingdom of justice and joy. The story that began in a garden (Genesis) ends in a garden-city (Revelation).
How Do You Receive the Gospel?
The appropriate response to the Gospel is repentance and faith. Repentance means turning away from trusting in yourself. Faith means turning toward and trusting in Jesus Christ. It is not about being good enough—it is about admitting you are not and accepting the free gift of grace.
